The council voted to designate a facility at 11215 Highway 37 as the city’s intake or pound for animals obtained by law enforcement or community service officers after the previous shelter lost its license.
City Attorney Andy Borland said the resolution in the council packet designates the intake location "only for those animals that are, that our police department and or our community service officers, obtain," and that it does not obligate the city to accept animals brought to the facility by private citizens.
Borland told council the designation meets a statutory need to identify a location to house animals obtained through official duties but does not convert the city into a full‑time animal shelter. Council approved the motion by voice vote.
