Hibbing council authorizes Cary Lake Campground construction documents and bid advertisement

City staff and consultants presented final construction documents for the Cary Lake Campground on Jan. 8 and asked the council to authorize the project to be advertised for bids.
Bar Engineering representatives described a campground layout that, as presented to the council, includes 28 RV sites, roughly 88 tenting sites, a host site and several group sites. Project elements discussed included clearing and grubbing already underway, well drilling to provide water, a subsurface sewage treatment system (SSTS) design in progress, and a 3–4 season shower and bath building intended to serve both campground users and the local ski community.
City service director Mr. Rola said the team intends a roughly four‑week bid period and to return to council in early February with bid results and a recommendation. He told the council that some early site work (clearing and access for well drilling) had already begun and that more construction would follow when ground conditions allow.
Councilors approved the motion to authorize the construction documents and to advertise for bids. Staff said they will return with bid tabulations and a recommendation for contract award at a future meeting.
