The Hibbing City Council on April 16 approved several public-works bids and purchases: a striping contract, materials testing for the 23rd Street reconstruction, culvert purchases, refuse containers, and an equipment trailer.
City Engineer Mr. Storey recommended a $28,261.55 quote from Sir Lyons Lot for the 2025 striping work; the project is part of a $55,000 annual budget for street painting that covers crosswalks and handicap parking. The council approved the striping quote on a voice vote.
For the state-aid 23rd Street reconstruction, Mr. Storey reported awarding Braun Intertech $35,952.50 for required materials testing, which will be reimbursed through state aid. He said the overall project cost is “right around $3,600,000.” The council approved the materials-testing award.
Storey also asked for approval of a $38,031.06 quote from L and L Rental to purchase 36 culverts (budgeted at $38,250), and a $83,950 purchase from Snyder Refuse for additional 300-gallon residential containers to replace older two-yard steel cans. Both purchases were approved. Finally, council approved a $26,284.48 purchase of an FT-24 equipment trailer from RMS to haul a skid steer and mini excavator; staff said proceeds from surplus-equipment sales will cover the purchase.
All purchases were approved by the council on voice votes; where relevant, staff noted state-aid reimbursement or existing budget authority.
