Commissioners discussed that staff had initiated a conversation with the city attorney about whether the at‑large position could serve and that an answer was not yet available. One commissioner said they were willing to serve if needed but, in the interest of prudence, moved to defer. The commission voted to defer the appointment to the next month's meeting to allow staff to follow up with the attorney and report back to the commission.
The motion to defer carried on a voice vote. Staff said they would email the commission once the city attorney provides a definitive response.
