Elgin council tables proposed public information contractor agreement to refine scope

The Elgin City Council on Feb. 17 tabled a proposed professional services agreement to hire a contractor for public information and communications services.
City staff explained the proposal seeks to separate duties currently covered by an interim community services director and to create a distinct contractor role focused on branding, messaging and reputation management. Pam Sanders, the city's HR director, said staff are working to clarify the scope of work and identify specific tasks the city wants a PIO to perform.
Because the current draft still attached the PIO role to other positions, staff asked the council to remove the commingled duties and return a revised contract for consideration. Council voted to table the resolution so staff could refine the contract language and scope and bring the item back at a future meeting.
No final contract was authorized at the meeting; staff said the item will appear again after they complete the requested changes.
