Public Works presented a proposal on Aug. 7 to install five heavy‑duty road gates at problem locations where vehicles have been accessing city lands and trails to dump household items. McKinney outlined problem areas (near Sims Play, Mindview bike trail and east bike‑trail access) and said the gates include lock protectors and will be installed on city property.
The purchase cost is $16,992 and council approved the expenditure, noting the expense will be funded from public works, wastewater and blight budgets as appropriate. Council asked staff to review boulevard/curbside rules and coordinate with county solid‑waste management for disposal options and community outreach.
"So, approval of the amount is, $16,992," McKinney said. Council framed the purchase as a pilot to reduce dumping and limit unauthorized vehicle access to sensitive areas.
