Hibbing Council approves consent agenda, election equipment, contracts and permits

At its Sept. 18 meeting, the Hibbing City Council approved a broad set of routine and operational items across finance, public works and recreation.
The council approved accounts payable checks #178234–178326 totaling $912,174.25 and payroll ending Sept. 6, 2024 for $603,701.90. The consent agenda included multiple personnel actions (hires and postings), renewal of a Blue Cross Blue Shield group Medicare plan for post-65 retirees, and declaring surplus furniture in finance.
Council approved procurement and contract items discussed during the meeting: purchase of 16 poll-pad packages (vendor 'No Ink') for $25,840 to replace flip-book check-ins and speed voter processing; a Carquest quote for a new A/C refrigerant service unit for $6,979.98 (sanitation budget); and purchase of seven adjustable sit-to-stand desks for the finance department not to exceed $52,350.50 (reallocation from capital budget). The council also authorized a $25,000 quote (218 Tree Service LLC) to remove boulevard trees affected by emerald ash borer using remaining DNR relief grant funds.
In recreation and venue operations, council approved a one-year contract (with a one-year option) with SAM Concessions to operate concessions at the Memorial Building, and accepted a $1,130 donation from the Owens Foundation to purchase event equipment (Resolution 24-09-11).
Finally, council approved several licenses and permits, including a temporary on-sale liquor license for Mike's Pub at Hibbing Memorial Arena (Sept. 28), raffle and purse-bingo permits for the Hibbing College Foundation, the Greyhound Bus Museum special event permit (Sept. 21), and two massage therapy licenses. Council also voted to allow official council attendance at the Greyhound Bus Museum anniversary event.
