Hibbing City Council approves consent agenda, payables and routine permits

The Hibbing City Council on Aug. 21 approved a sweeping consent agenda that included accounts payable, payroll, personnel moves and a slate of community event permits.
The council voted to approve accounts payable checks numbered 178010 through 178121 totaling $1,676,048.81 and checks 178122 through 178141 for $419,816.93, and payroll dated Aug. 16, 2024, in the amount of $618,500.08. The consent agenda also authorized hiring Skeeter Estee as a full‑time automotive mechanic, created and posted several sanitation and skilled‑labor positions, and accepted the Hibbing Police Department activity report for July 2024.
Finance Director/Treasurer Miss Coleman told the council the 2023 annual audit was complete and presented final financial reports; councilors approved the 2023 financial statements by voice vote.
The council also approved multiple temporary and raffle permits for community organizations, including the Hibbing‑Chisholm Soccer Club, Ducks Unlimited, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and the Hibbing Figure Skating Club, as well as a transient merchant license for Long Flight Chow to operate a food trailer. Special event permits were granted for the ISD 701 Hall of Fame event at the Hibbing Memorial Building and a trunk‑or‑treat in front of City Hall on Oct. 26, 2024.
