Ashlyn Sherisbury of the Mount Rogers Regional Partnership told the board the region helped create 238 jobs and attract about $128 million in capital investment last fiscal year and highlighted site-development work at Wauwat Commerce Park and workforce programs linking students to local careers.
Ashlyn Sherisbury, executive director of the Mount Rogers Regional Partnership, briefed the Grayson County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 15 about the organization's economic-development and workforce activities across the regional partnership that includes Grayson.
Sherisbury said the partnership supported projects during FY2025 that generated approximately 238 new jobs and about $128 million in capital investment. She cited the 65-acre greenhouse project at Wauwat Commerce Park that announced 118 jobs and an investment of nearly $105 million as a recent success and described marketing, lead generation and site-readiness work funded in part by a regional tobacco grant and a Go Virginia grant.
"We help with lead generation, site development, and workforce connections," Sherisbury said, describing talent programs that connected 293 high school students through "connect" and excellence initiatives and partnering with community colleges and local K'12 schools to align training with employer needs.
She also described the region's certification as an FDI-qualified community and work to prepare additional pad-ready industrial sites because existing parks are largely sold. Sherisbury urged continued county support for grant-funded regional site studies and marketing efforts and provided contact information for follow-up.
Supervisors thanked Sherisbury and said they value the regional partnership's work to attract investment and support workforce development.
No formal county action was requested at the meeting; Sherisbury's remarks were intended to inform supervisors as they consider regional economic and workforce priorities.
