Trustees discussed two related capital issues affecting the downtown Square on Second: whether to proceed with installing synthetic turf already purchased and whether to request resurfacing estimates for the Square and Second Street.
Board members said the village paid for turf material but not installation and warned the contractor could be owed roughly $38,766 if the village cancels installation. A change order request of about $47,450 was presented as the additional cost tied to moving the turf placement to the south side of the Square and to required demolition work.
Members said the turf installer market is limited and that Mike planned to meet the vendor to negotiate scope and price reductions. The vendor cited a costly fall-zone underlayment beneath a zip-line area as a significant driver of the price; trustees discussed alternatives such as rubber mulch borders but noted maintenance and aesthetic trade-offs.
Separately, public works will obtain bids for resurfacing the Square and Second Street, seeking prices for stamped asphalt and stamped concrete and options to recreate a center emblem with concrete etching. Trustees noted stamped concrete may be more durable but asked staff for comparative estimates given base requirements and budget limits.
No contract was approved at the meeting. Trustees asked staff to report back after vendor negotiations and to place updated pricing on the next committee agenda.
