The Campbell County School District #1 facilities director updated trustees on a suite of capital projects and said the district faces a roughly $8 million shortfall for a proposed transportation facility.
The director described a recent plan review with the State Construction Department and said the state’s review focused on options to reduce hardscape and equipment costs, review fleet size and parking, and potentially shrink building scope. "We're approximately $8,000,000 short," the facilities representative said, noting that the district’s larger fleet and higher paving needs largely explain the gap compared with other districts.
Staff said the district’s design adheres to current state standards and guidelines and that any reductions proposed by the state would come with trade-offs. The facilities director said the district expects a notice to proceed to 65% design from the department but that it will likely include stipulations to reduce certain standards.
The director provided timelines on other projects: final inspections for the new Little Powder facility and move activity scheduled around the holiday break and January, a planned HVAC replacement project (Cottonwood) with bidding and construction dates, and the new aquatic center opening with temporary occupancy for the main floor and a grand opening planned for Dec. 17.
Trustees asked about comparisons with other districts’ facilities and surface-level design differences; staff said they will continue to work with the governor’s office and legislators on funding and will return with updated drafts and budget information.
