Bus drivers recognized for lifesaving response and state competition win

The Campbell County School District #1 board on Thursday formally recognized two transportation employees for on-the-scene emergency care and job-related achievement.
Scott Mail, introduced in the meeting as the district’s supervisor for transportation, described an Oct. 1 accident at a fueling station and said Deborah Stofferson and Julie Parker responded immediately. "Deb and Julie Parker both chose to respond... ultimately being able to render aid to the community member, who was nonresponsive when they got there," Mail said, and later noted the person was sitting upright and talking when evaluated after the response.
Mail also said Deborah Stofferson started as a district bus driver in 2014 and that she won first place in the conventional class at the Wyoming People of Transportation Association skills competition in June; the board presented her with a certificate of appreciation and a plaque.
Trustees and attendees applauded the employees’ actions and several speakers urged the public to seek CPR and first-aid training, noting how quickly bystander care can affect outcomes.
