Riverwoods board approves $2,000 donation to Deerfield Parents Network for after‑prom safety

Corey Swender, co‑president of DBN, and Riverwoods resident Jessica Berger described the organization and its programming. Berger said the after‑prom is a donation‑based, substance‑free event that costs "about $25,000 to, to put on" and that attendance is typically "over 350 kids" and often as high as 400. She said the group relies on corporate, parent and community donations to fund the evening.
Trustees asked about DBN's finances and the distribution of village donations after noting that the village donations shown on DBN's statement total $4,250 and Riverwoods' contribution is $2,000, leaving the remainder for Deerfield and Bannockburn. Trustee Clayton asked whether Deerfield is asked for more money and encouraged organizers to seek higher contributions from Deerfield. Swender and Berger said they have sent the same request to Deerfield each year and that Deerfield has been sending a check in response.
A trustee moved to approve the requested $2,000 donation; the motion was seconded and carried after a roll‑call vote in which multiple trustees answered "Aye." Trustees thanked the presenters and noted appreciation for DBN's work keeping seniors safe on prom night.
The board did not set any additional funding conditions at the meeting.
