Westland council unanimously approves appointments, event permits and routine code changes

The Westland City Council approved a slate of routine items, including reappointments and new appointments to boards and commissions, several special-event liquor-license applications, and land-division requests.
Appointments and reappointments confirmed and recognized by the council included Adam Hammonds to the planning commission (term 03/07/2026–03/07/2029), Gail Nicholson reappointed to the library board (term through 02/06/2031), Lori Goen confirmed to the library board to fill an unexpired term (through 08/07/2027), and Melanie Hines appointed to the Downtown Development Authority through 09/17/2026. Councilmembers thanked each appointee for volunteering.
The council approved event permits and related liquor-license resolutions: a special one-day license for the city’s 60th anniversary celebration on May 15, 2026 (canned beer sales, 4PM–10PM), a two-day license for the Blues, Brews & Barbecue festival (08/07–08/08/2026, 12PM–11PM), and a one-day license for the fifth annual craft beer and wine event at Tannen Park (09/12/2026, 4PM–11PM). Council also approved the transfer of a Class C liquor license for Town and Country Lanes at 1100 S. Wayne Road to a new owner.
Council adopted amendments to Chapter 46-2 of the city code adjusting rates at the city golf course and arena and approved an administrative fee update to add a non-resident $60 dog-park pass for Rotary Canine Corral. Other consent items included the purchase of 10 computers for the Friendship Center computer lab and a policy-management subscription renewal with Civic DMS. The consent calendar and subsequent motions passed by roll call and unanimous voice votes where noted.
