Sheridan County School District #2 honors state tennis champions and award-winning teachers

The Sheridan County School District #2 Board of Trustees opened Tuesday’s meeting with recognitions for student and staff achievements, highlighting a state championship in boys tennis and two teacher awards.
Coach Scott Dickey, introduced by a board member, described the season that culminated in the program’s first boys state tennis title since 1985 and recounted the team’s overall record and individual performances. "It was a big time, team effort," Dickey said, and he named players including Ben Buhan, Andrew Miller and Matthew Brown.
Board members and trustees offered congratulations and noted the district’s new tennis facilities. Trustee Lansing said, "You gave them direction, and they listened," and Trustee Perkins noted recent tours of the new courts.
The board also recognized Michael Thomas for receiving the Clara M. and Henry E. Jensen outstanding Wyoming history teacher award from the Wyoming Historical Society; Thomas said he was "humbled and thankful" and thanked colleagues for support. The district noted Thomas received a $250 prize and a plaque.
Sheridan High School welding teacher Clay Christiansen was presented as one of 25 national winners of the 2025 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools prize for teaching excellence, an award that includes $50,000 for his program. Christiansen credited his students and Harbor Freight for the support and described the award as "a fun surprise."
Trustees described the recognitions as part of a broader pattern of district achievement, noting that multiple schools in the district received top rankings from niche.com during the same meeting.
