District administrators presented the 2026 magnet lottery plan and timelines to the curriculum committee on Feb. 17, outlining seat availability, eligibility requirements and family outreach.
Administrators said the district will hold 100 open seats for incoming third grade at Johnson Elementary and 100 seats at Fred Rogers for students entering sixth grade, and noted some grade cohorts will have limited openings. Eligibility criteria include achieving at or above the 50th percentile on NWEA MAP math and reading assessments (reading evaluated in a student’s dominant language) and consideration of grades as part of the determination.
The district outlined a communication plan that begins with a press release from the communications office, targeted calls and messages to East Aurora 131 families, attendance at parent association meetings and invitations to apply for qualifying students if seats remain. Key dates given: online application will be available at the end of February, the application deadline is March 25, parents will be notified of eligibility on April 10, the lottery will be conducted via Zoom on April 23, selection/waitlist notifications will go out May 1, and the deadline to return enrollment acceptance is May 14.
Administrators said they will send targeted invitations to students who meet eligibility requirements and that they will publish registration details and application instructions to families once the online form opens.
