Mayor Dan Yancey announced Copperas Cove was awarded a Department of Veterans Affairs multispecialty outpatient clinic expected to be about 256,000 square feet and initially employ roughly 500 people; the city said the project could open in late 2028 and will bring ancillary economic activity.
Copperas Cove officials announced Feb. 17 that the city has been awarded a Department of Veterans Affairs multispecialty outpatient clinic expected to measure about 256,000 square feet and initially employ roughly 500 people.
"Copperas Cove was awarded the VA multispecialty outpatient clinic," Mayor Dan Yancey said at the council workshop, calling the project “one of the most important announcements” for the city in decades. He thanked city staff, the city council and the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation for their work on the effort.
City staff gave an initial schedule that estimates the clinic could open in the fourth quarter of 2028, but officials cautioned that the timeline is subject to change as federal planning, design and construction milestones are completed. The city described the award as likely to generate additional private investment and new local jobs tied to the facility and its supply chain.
City leaders said details on site selection, funding arrangements and construction phasing remain to be finalized. Officials said the project will move through the standard VA and local permitting processes and that the city will provide further updates as agreements and firm schedules are developed.
