Aberdeen unveils online Day Care Resources hub, adds application packets and training links

Amber Schwab, an economic development staff member for the City of Aberdeen, told the council that the City has posted a new “Day Care Resources” section on its website to make it easier for in‑home providers to apply for or renew licenses and to connect families with local options.
“On these pages, you will find that you can find all of our licensed day cares in Aberdeen on a listed day care provider list,” Schwab said, adding that the pages include step‑by‑step internal and external checklists and links to the departments that an applicant must contact. Emily Ellingson of community development and Steven t Devong in finance assisted with the project and built fillable PDF application packets that can be completed online or printed and submitted in person.
Schwab said the packet distinguishes three application types — family, home and helper — and that helpers also must be licensed. She described a new quarterly “stay connected” resource hub that will email providers about ordinance changes, renewal dates and city programs. The presentation noted that providers who sign up will receive event and resource listings, including library story times and winter playground options for children.
City staff also announced a new pairing with the fire department: CPR and first‑aid classes will be offered twice a year in conjunction with biannual license renewals so licensed providers can update certifications free of charge. Schwab said this feature “will help with not having the lapse in the CPR and first aid” for licensed day cares.
Councilmembers thanked staff for the cross‑department teamwork. Councilmember (name recorded in the transcript as) Aaron complimented the coordination; others asked for a quick guide to finding the pages. Staff said the content is posted under Community Development and Economic Development and is also linked from the Communications tab on the city’s main page.
The council did not take a vote on this informational item; members praised the work and encouraged outreach to recruit more in‑home providers.
