Oldsmar council handles appointments and recognitions; Tampa Bay Downs honored for centennial

Resident Jessica Vilafana (407 Tangerine Drive) used the open forum to thank Parks & Recreation staff for opening the State Street Center to support a women’s‑club Super Bowl fundraiser that drew more than 92 guests and raised over $2,000 for local charities. She also announced her candidacy for Seat 3 in the August special election.
The council approved the appointment of Jim Mascarenas as an alternate member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board after he briefly addressed the council about his interest and prior participation in the Citizens Academy. The consent docket included multiple other routine items (minutes, contracts, reappointments and procurement approvals); items 4 and 8 were pulled for discussion. A proclamation request from Tim McDonald to proclaim March 2026 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (item 8) was pulled and did not move forward because council members sought a clearer local sponsor or community connection before placing such proclamations on the consent agenda.
Separately, the council presented a proclamation marking the centennial of Tampa Bay Downs (02/18/1926–02/18/2026). Track representatives accepted the honor and invited council members to attend a historical‑marker dedication at the track.
