Covington council appoints John Callahan as interim councilman for District A

At a special Covington City Council meeting, members voted to appoint John Callahan as interim councilman for District A, filling the vacancy created when Councilman Lewis resigned on Feb. 4, 2026. The appointment was introduced as Resolution 20 24-31.
The presiding officer introduced the resolution, saying he had known Callahan and that Callahan had agreed to serve when asked. "He has served and he served exceptionally well," the presiding officer said. John Callahan responded, "No problem," when thanked for accepting the appointment.
A motion to accept the resolution was made and seconded. Roll call recorded affirmative votes from Councilmen Roberts, Inman, Botsford, Burrell and Bushnell. The motion carried, and the council announced that the city attorney would administer the oath.
City attorney Rod administered the oath; Callahan repeated the pledge to "support the constitution and laws" and to "faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties" of his office for District A. Council members offered congratulatory remarks and noted Callahan’s prior service on the council.
There was no public comment recorded on the appointment. The council moved on to consent calendar business after the swearing-in.
