Residents press council on housing, water and development; some urge revisiting the general plan

During the meeting’s public-comment period several residents raised housing policy, water-supply and neighborhood-impact concerns.
Noah James Markham told the council Apache Junction needs more housing and urged reuse of vacant commercial space and downtown development. He encouraged continued building, argued for water conservation amid drought and congratulated the city on passing a bond for firefighters.
A resident who identified herself as Danica criticized the pace and location of apartment construction, warned that adding rooftops increases pressure on a limited water supply, objected to siting a proposed marijuana store near Flatiron Park where children play, and said liquor licenses were being distributed too freely.
Andre Meath urged greater civic engagement, said past approvals complied with the general plan but suggested the council reconsider the plan because community expectations have changed, and suggested limiting building height on land east of Idaho Road to preserve mountain views.
None of the public commenters proposed immediate council actions during the meeting; the council did not take formal action on the comments and adjourned following the comment period.
