Board approves network and surveillance purchase for Barrientes CTE center; warranty details discussed

Edinburg CISD trustees approved a procurement to install new network infrastructure, cabling, access points and video surveillance for the Barrientes career and technical center, with the board discussion showing a purchase price quoted in the meeting of $236,314.56.

Trustee questions focused on warranties and long-term support. District IT staff explained the purchase covers multiple components with differing warranty terms: some vendor-supplied hardware carries one-year warranties while other equipment, including some Cisco networking components, can carry multi-year warranties. The IT representative said the district obtained three bids for the work and uses major vendors and Cisco equipment districtwide.

Trustees and staff said warranty specifics and vendor commitments would be provided to the board or kept on file; one trustee said a one-year warranty would be acceptable if vendor support and longer warranties were available for critical components. The board moved the procurement item and the chair called the vote; the motion carried.
