Edinburg CISD auditors issue unmodified opinion; trustees approve fiscal 2025 audit

Edinburg CISD trustees voted to accept the district's audited financial statements for the year ended Aug. 31, 2025, after external auditors told the board they were issuing an unmodified (clean) opinion.

"We are rendering what we consider a clean opinion," auditor Luis Orozco said during a presentation of the audit report, summarizing the firm's view that it found no material misstatements in the district's financial statements for the year. Auditors also reported no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies and no findings of noncompliance on the major federal programs they tested, which the presentation identified as Title I Part A and Title II Part A.

Auditor Jesus Moncayo walked trustees through key schedules and the balance-sheet exhibits, directing trustees to the report's tables for line-by-line detail. Moncayo read totals for the district's governmental funds and federal expenditures and explained the firm's selection threshold for major programs. He said the general fund ended the year with a fund-balance figure that trustees should review in the full report.

Trustees thanked auditors for the work and said they would call the audit firm back if more explanation was needed. After discussion the board moved to approve the audit; the chair called the vote and stated that the motion carried.

Next steps: auditors said the report will be uploaded per the district's reporting process and that staff and the firm would work together on any follow-up accountings or questions trustees raise.
