Margate adopts ordinance tightening procurement definitions and thresholds

At the Feb. 18 meeting the City Commission adopted on second reading an ordinance amending Chapter 2 (Administration — Finances) to clarify purchasing procedures, definitions, thresholds, contracting for public works, and rules governing award of bids and solicitations.
City Attorney David Tulsa read the ordinance summary, which includes amendments for formal and informal quotes, authorization to piggyback on certain contracts, revised purchasing thresholds, and conflict-of-interest and severability provisions. A public hearing was held; no members of the public spoke on the ordinance during the hearing.
A motion to approve the ordinance carried on a unanimous roll call vote. Commissioners said the changes are intended to modernize procurement practice and streamline contracts while keeping transparency safeguards in place.
The ordinance will be codified and become effective according to the dates in the adopted text.
The meeting moved on after the vote, and the commission adjourned.
