Kent swears in new officer and approves appointments on consent calendar

The Kent City Council on Feb. 17 swore in a new Kent police officer and approved multiple appointments on the consent calendar.
Deputy Chief Stansfield introduced and swore in Officer Cameron Alonzo, who spoke briefly and identified family members in the audience. Stansfield said Alonzo is 23, lives in Edgewood, graduated from White River High School in 2020 and previously worked as an Amazon delivery driver in Maple Valley. The council president administered the oath and Stansfield congratulated the officer.
Earlier in the meeting the presiding officer announced Mayor Ralph’s request that council confirm appointments to the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Board; the meeting record notes about 17 individuals on that list and no individual appointees spoke. The presiding officer also noted Mayor Ralph’s requested appointment of Stephanie Redwick to the Kent Parks and Recreation Commission; Redwick was present and the item was placed on the consent calendar.
Later the council moved and approved the consent calendar (items a through m) by voice vote; that approval included the appointments noted earlier. No separate roll-call votes for those appointments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Next steps: Appointments confirmed via the consent calendar will be processed by staff as part of routine administrative procedures.
