The Orange City School District Board reviewed a proposed contract with AUE's event production services on Nov. 10 to replace audio equipment and install a fixed-lens projection (cyclorama) in the high school auditorium at a total cost of $135,101.13.
Contract materials presented to the board said the project would be funded by proceeds from a district fundraiser and remaining funds from an entity identified in board materials as OCEER (the transcript also references OCR in related comments). The presenter said the fundraiser netted about $64,000 after expenses and that audio enhancements were estimated at $67,870.28 while the projection portion was roughly $64,000.
Board members and community attendees asked technical questions. The presenter described installing eight new speakers to create more even sound distribution (the existing system has only two speakers), and said the old speakers are likely not reusable because of age and connection incompatibilities. The cyclorama projection system was described as a top-down mounted projector behind the stage that can be raised and lowered and stored when not in use; staff training would be required for its operation and a secure storage case will be needed.
Questions about equipment useful life were deferred: the presenter said they would provide a life-expectancy estimate after the meeting. The presenter also noted that lighting issues are a separate and larger deferred-maintenance expense (roughly 40 lights out behind the stage) and that a lighting replacement was expected to be considered later, likely in spring, with a higher cost than the present audio/projection project.
Board discussion led to no immediate changes to the contract as presented; the item was provided for review and subsequent consent agenda action. Several board members thanked StageCrafters and the district foundation for fundraising efforts that made the project feasible.
