OCR announces accreditation from national parks-and-recreation commission

Staff from OCR announced that the Office of Community Recreation has been granted accreditation by the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies. “We were super, super excited to receive the good news,” OCR staff member Jill said during the Oct. 13 meeting as the board viewed a short video summarizing the department’s accomplishments and next steps.
OCR staff said accreditation lasts five years, with an annual report due each year and a full reaccreditation review at the end of the five-year cycle. Jill explained the commission reduced the number of standards from 154 to 67 for the next cycle and described the reporting and evidence process the department will follow to retain accreditation.
Board members congratulated OCR staff for the work that led to accreditation and noted the department’s collaboration with the district. The board then approved related items on the agenda in a roll call vote.
What’s next: OCR will post the short promotional video on the district website and continue annual reporting to the accrediting body as required.
