Local booster group outlines plans, awards and 60th-anniversary activities

Debbie Arnold, president of the Orange Patronaires, addressed the board on Sept. 8 to summarize the booster group's recent activities, revenue and plans.
Arnold said the Patronaires (a nonprofit that supports music, art and drama at Orange City schools) brought in $12,550 in membership income last year from 95 families, a nearly $4,000 increase over the prior two years. She credited a refocus on middle-school outreach, a new $500 membership tier with several participants, and stepped-up marketing and social-media outreach.
The Patronaires fund scholarships and program supports including junior and senior merit scholarships, uniform alterations, microphones and adjudicator fees, assistance for ensemble honors and state contests, and support for performance trips to venues such as Chicago and theme-park trips. Arnold said the group plans to increase the number and dollar amount of student scholarships and is considering a spring event tied to the group's 60th anniversary.
Arnold asked the board and community to consider Patronaires membership starting at $30 and to follow the group's social-media channels to boost outreach. Trustees and other board participants responded with praise for the performing-arts program's achievements and for community involvement.
