City donates post-prom funds; Valley Shelter Workshop to host March prom for adults with disabilities

"These funds that we donate to post prom each year come from our violation fund, which is usually monies derived from liquor law violations," the Police Chief said, explaining the source of the donation and thanking the post-prom organizers.
Representatives of Valley Shelter Workshop described plans for a first-time prom for adults with disabilities set for March 21 at the Moose Lodge. The organization said registration opens the day after the meeting and that they expect to host about 100 individuals and a comparable number of volunteers. The representative said the project began after surveying clients and local partners; about 30 community groups and neighbors responded in support.
Council members and the mayor praised the collaboration between the police department, community groups and nonprofit partners to provide inclusive social opportunities and to use enforcement-derived funds for prevention and positive programming.
