The Citizens Advisory Commission had suggested adding positions in several sections including labor relations, economic development and immigrant protections.
Council members debated the level of specificity appropriate for the platform. Several members said the document should remain broadly framed so staff can act quickly, while others asked for explicit language supporting coastal protection, opposition to new offshore drilling, and more prominence for climate resiliency and housing affordability. Council member Perez and others asked staff to craft language that is broad enough to guide staff but specific enough to reflect council priorities.
The council voted to approve the platform as presented and asked staff to prepare proposed language on climate sustainability and social‑justice protections to return for further council consideration.
Staff will draft amendments and schedule them for a future meeting; large or controversial items will still require full council discussion before formal positions are adopted.
