The Mitchell City Council approved a 2026 agreement to send up to 15 full-time city employees to vehicle-mounted work platform training offered by Mitchell Technical College (MTC), staff said.
Mr. Nelson presented the item to the mayor and council, saying training will be provided by MTC and that the city had not previously budgeted for this training because MTC had not recently offered it to nonstudents. "The city will be sending full time staff from five divisions including parks, sport complex, cemetery, golf course, traffic, and corn palace who all use such equipment," Nelson said. Staff reported a flat fee of $2,700 that covers up to 15 participants, which the presenter called cost-effective if the city sends the maximum number of employees.
Staff recommended approval and the council moved and seconded the item; the motion passed. The fee will be included in the 2026 supplemental budget request, council documents show.
The training is intended to standardize safe operation of vehicle-mounted platforms across divisions that use that equipment; staff highlighted the shared-utility benefit of sending multiple employees to a single session.
