City Manager provided several community announcements during the Feb. 17 council meeting.
A neighborhood cleanup led by the Hayward Clean and Green Commission is scheduled for Feb. 28, 8 a.m. to noon, meeting at Longwood Elementary School (listed in the meeting as "8 50 Longwood Avenue") to collect litter and report blight; organizers asked that volunteers under 18 be accompanied by an adult and said free same‑day registration will be available.
The city announced a kickoff for yearlong anniversary activities on March 11 at City Hall Plaza to mark Hayward’s incorporation anniversary; the city described the event as a kickoff for a series of birthday observations supported by the city, Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, Hayward Unified School District and the Hayward Area Historical Society.
Mayor Mark Salinas will deliver the State of the City address at 6 p.m. on March 12 at the Hayward Unified School District Performing Arts Center, 2390 Panama Street; the event is free and open to the public.
Council members and staff encouraged residents to participate in the cleanup and anniversary events and noted links and contact information (Hayward maintenance services and community partnerships staff) will be posted on the city website.
