Waco proclaims Feb. 17, 2026, "Robert Doyle Day" for his work on the Waco Wetlands

At the start of its Feb. 17 meeting, the Waco City Council presented a proclamation naming Feb. 17, 2026, "Robert Doyle Day." Mayor Jim Holmes read the proclamation and described Doyle as a "tireless advocate for the preservation and restoration of wetland ecosystems" who has been instrumental in developing and enhancing the Waco Wetlands.
In presenting the proclamation, Mayor Holmes said Doyle has "inspired generations of students and citizens" through donations of aquatic plants, guidance of restoration projects and supervision of Baylor students and volunteers in hands‑on conservation work.
Dr. Robert Doyle, a professor of biology at Baylor University, told the council he is "about to retire from Baylor after a lot of years, more than 25 years there," and said he came to Baylor because of the city's attention to water resources. "The partnership with the city... will be a shining part of my recollection of my academic career," he said.
The council invited a photo during the presentation and thanked Doyle for his contributions to science, education and stewardship in Waco. No formal action beyond the proclamation was recorded.
