Residents praise Gateway transit and urge wildlife protections in public comments to Wayne County

Barry Merrill praised the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority (Gateway) for providing regular rides to medical appointments and serving residents who cannot drive. Merrill said he and his wife rely on Gateway for trips to local and regional medical appointments and urged residents to support a sales-tax referendum slated for the ballot to help school facility improvements.
Britney Kervin LeMay spoke about wildlife and land stewardship, describing observations of trees removed, roadside trash and frequent wildlife-vehicle collisions on Highway 795. She urged the county to consider habitat restoration, conservation easements for willing landowners and long-term measures such as wildlife overpasses or underpasses to reduce collisions and protect species.
Commissioners thanked both speakers and noted related county work (trash cleanup and highway/drainage issues). No formal action resulted from these comments during the meeting.
