Commissioners approve treasurer’s report, defer Employers’ Council membership renewal

CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. — At their Feb. 18 meeting, Custer County commissioners approved the monthly treasurer’s report for Dec. 2025 and discussed whether to continue an $8,350 annual membership with Employers’ Council, an outside employment‑law and HR training provider.
The treasurer presented balances for the general fund and total county funds and the board moved and unanimously approved the report. Commissioners then reviewed the Employers’ Council membership, which provides legal advice, training and an on‑demand library. One commissioner said the county has paid about $8,350 and has underused the service; others noted some overlap with CTSI services and asked staff to compile usage and cost comparisons. A motion was made to remove the charge from accounts payable and not renew the membership until the board receives additional information; the board concurred.
What’s next: County staff will provide usage data and cost comparisons for Employers’ Council and CTSI so the board can decide whether to retain the membership or switch to an a la carte approach.
