CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. — Commissioners voted Feb. 18 to approve a contract with Redlands Accounting and Advisory for 2026 to provide an independent third‑party review of county accounting, monthly reconciliations and assistance preparing for annual audit requirements including GASB 87 and 96.
A Redlands representative described the firm’s role as a ‘‘third set of eyes’’ to monitor reconciliations, payroll and receivable processes, and to compile materials to speed the annual audit. The representative said Redlands will dedicate one week per month on site and hold regular remote consultations.
Commissioners praised the oversight and emphasized the need to know and document county assets and depreciation. One commissioner said the firm’s familiarity with auditor expectations was a primary benefit.
The board moved and approved the contract by voice vote. County staff said the contract terms and scope will be executed consistent with county procurement and the county auditor’s requirements.
What’s next: Redlands will begin regular site visits and weekly coordination calls; staff will use the consultant’s work to prepare for the next audit cycle.
