The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution recognizing United Way of Nevada County's payroll-deduction campaign kickoff month and related fundraising activities.
United Way Executive Director Louise Reed and HR Director Steve Rose presented the organization's 2024 impact summary and campaign plans, noting partnerships across Nevada County and Sierra County. Reed said the organization's food-access programs served roughly 7,443 individuals (including 5,683 children) and described school pantry expansion; she outlined Project Warmth clothing distribution and prescription cost-savings efforts that the nonprofit said had helped county residents save approximately $1,000,000 cumulatively on prescriptions and $7,500 so far in 2024.
HR staff asked supervisors to promote a payroll deduction with a suggested $1 per pay period donation target to reach a $20,000 goal and highlighted an accompanying book sale scheduled from Sept. 20 to Oct. 2. After brief board questions about logistics and donation barrels, the board moved, seconded and approved the proclamation by roll call.
No additional action was requested other than staff support for the campaign and outreach coordination with department employees.
