The Nevada County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Oct. 8 to adopt an amendment to the Truckee Library Joint Powers Agreement and to transfer $150,000 from the Nevada County Library Fund to the Truckee Library JPA to support financing activities for a new Truckee Regional Library.
Staff (Mandy Stewart and Josh White, Facilities) told the board the amended JPA would add Placer County as a nonvoting member; Placer will not make capital contributions or assume construction liability at this time but will allow JPA financing mechanisms to include portions of Placer County if a special tax or financing district is later formed. The board packet noted the county’s total planned contribution to the Truckee project remains $1,000,000 as discussed at earlier workshops.
The $150,000 transfer will be used for tasks such as retaining a special tax consultant and bond counsel and will be matched by the Town of Truckee and Friends of the Truckee Library. Public commenters — including Friends of the Truckee Library members and callers — urged approval. The board took two votes (one to amend the JPA and one to transfer funds); both passed on roll call, Districts 1–5 voting yes.
