Pastor Mark Bolhofner presented proceeds from the congregation’s race and described a long relationship between the church and the police department; he invited commissioners to a first‑responder appreciation event on March 22. Later in the meeting, Chief Hoefer told the commission the Explorer fund balance averages about $50,000 and that the program spends an estimated $12,000–$14,000 per year on competitions, uniforms and equipment. Chief Hoefer also said several participants in the Explorer program have gone on to serve as sworn officers.
Commissioners voted to authorize the $5,000 expenditure from state forfeiture funds on a roll call. Staff said the combined contributions will support training and competition expenses for young people who participate in the Explorer program.
