Village authorizes purchase of pavilion, ZipTrak and lighting for planned skate‑park project

Pingree Grove trustees on Feb. 17 authorized three direct purchases of equipment for a planned skate‑park and associated park improvements: a Polygon pavilion structure for $65,300.60; a ZipTrak and interactive ball wall from Cunningham Recreation for $133,570.50; and lighting fixtures and controls from Acuity for $147,371.31.
Staff said the village is purchasing these items directly — rather than packaging them into the general construction bid — to better control lead times and avoid contractor markups. Installation work (concrete bases, electrical) will be included in the construction contract awarded after bidding; the current purchases cover equipment only.
Seth told the board the village will request separate invoices for the ball wall and zipline track, and separate invoices for athletic versus parking-lot lighting, to comply with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) grant requirements for the Auslan grant and ensure each purchase remains under $100,000 so it can be rolled into the grant without issues.
Trustees heard staff plan to bid the overall project later this month with construction anticipated to start in April or May and a projected full opening in early September.
The omnibus motion to authorize the three purchases passed on roll call.
