Following the required public hearing, the Gage County Board on Aug. 21 adopted the county’s 1‑and‑6 year highway improvement plan and approved a motion to move the Claytonia blacktop project from the 6‑year list to the 1‑year plan.
Road superintendent Mark summarized the proposed work for the coming year: aggressive sizing of older bridges, about a dozen culverts planned (six to be delivered this fall and others in spring), and two projects tied to awarded contracts. He outlined efforts to have culvert sizing and associated hydraulic studies ready so procurement and ordering would not delay work. Board members discussed mill‑and‑overlay timing, grant application strategies and whether projects could be pulled from the 6‑year list to the 1‑year list to improve competitiveness for grants.
Supervisor Swavely moved — Dorn seconded — that the full Claytonia blacktop be moved to the 1‑year plan from the 6‑year plan; after discussion the board adopted resolution 24‑10. The motion carried with all supervisors voting in favor.
The board and staff noted that moving a project to the 1‑year list signals priority for grant applications but does not guarantee funding: projects placed on the 1‑year plan will be pursued through the county’s grant and budget processes and will proceed only if funding is available.
