Gage County Board of Equalization approves agenda, hears countywide appraisal update

The Gage County Board of Equalization approved its agenda and previous meeting minutes and heard a brief update on the countywide appraisal project at its Sept. 18 meeting.
Patty, a county staff member who provided the update, said the appraisal is currently in the computer and pricing stage. "Well, we're working more onto the computer stuff side of it right now," Patty said, adding there is "a lot to do" before field operations begin. She said staff plans to "hit it hard pretty soon here."
On staffing and geographic phasing, Patty said, "Josh will be working on the North on acreages mostly, and then Beatrice will be the final year." She also said agricultural land valuations remain to be resolved: "And in that, we have Agland too that we have to figure. So get our stats in." Patty indicated the team expects much of the stated work to be completed by March 19, 2025, and that the schedule extends into calendar/fiscal year '25.
Board business opening the meeting was procedural. The presiding officer moved through roll, noting the Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room, and recorded attendance. The board moved to approve the agenda; Dorn moved, Swavely seconded, and the board voted "6 in favor," the presiding officer said. The board then approved the prior meeting minutes with a recorded vote of "6 in favor."
During the appraisal update discussion, Patty described current market signals: "It stabilized maybe a little bit, but they're still unreal," and the presiding officer referenced Federal Reserve commentary about possible rate changes. No formal appeals, ordinance actions, or additional votes were recorded during the meeting.
The presiding officer thanked staff and adjourned equalization at 08:36.
The board did not set additional committee deadlines or take implementation votes on appraisal methodology during this brief session; staff indicated remaining work on pricing, agricultural valuations and field assignments would continue.
