Lockport Township High School District 205 reorganizes board, elects officers and sets 2025 meeting calendar

The board also elected Anne Lopez Keneva as vice president and Candace Gerritsen as board secretary, and approved appointments for the board recording secretary and treasurer.
The board first approved routine business, including adoption of the previous meeting minutes and review of the county clerk’s canvass of election results certifying winners for the board’s open seats. Administrative staff noted the canvass requires only review by the board and that the results prepare the district to seat new members. After seating, the president pro tem opened nominations and the board conducted voice and roll-call votes to select officers. As part of the seating process, all newly elected trustees were administered the statutory oath of office.
The board approved by roll call a set of regular meeting dates for the remainder of 2025 and into the 2025–26 school year, with standing board meetings scheduled for the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., subject to change for holidays and public notice requirements. Administration clarified remote participation rules under the Illinois State School Code and the Open Meetings Act and reminded trustees that votes must occur in public; members may join remotely for reasons such as illness or travel but may not cast advance votes.
Members also confirmed internal appointments: Cathy Maxwell (recording secretary) and Stephanie Croix (board treasurer). The superintendent explained that in many surrounding counties the treasurer role is commonly held by the chief school business official because of bonding and investment responsibilities; appointing the CSBO as treasurer aligns daily financial stewardship with treasurer duties.
The meeting concluded with discussion of committee assignments (curriculum; facilities & finance), the district’s IASB delegate and alternate, and plans for a board retreat to address governance and norms. Administration offered to arrange a facilitator for the retreat and noted that, depending on the facilitator, portions could be held in closed session under IASB protocols.
