The Andalusia City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 17 to adopt Ordinance 2026-01, establishing the city'9s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday. Mayor Earl v Johnson introduced the ordinance and asked the council to waive the rule requiring a second reading so the item could be adopted at the same meeting; the council voted by roll call to waive the second reading before taking the adoption vote.
Councilmember Craig moved to adopt Ordinance 2026-01 for the back-to-school sales tax holiday and Councilman Powell seconded the motion. The ordinance was approved unanimously by the council. The mayor stated that the sales tax holiday period would run from midnight July 17 to midnight July 19; the ordinance number recorded in the meeting was 2026-01.
Earlier in the meeting the council appointed delegates for the Alabama League of Municipalities annual meeting: Mr. Nicks as voting delegate, Mr. Boswell as first alternate and Mr. Mount as second alternate for the meeting scheduled April 28 to May 1 in Montgomery. The appointments were confirmed by hand vote and recorded by the mayor.
The council completed all business on a short agenda and adjourned. The meeting record shows votes taken by hand/voice; a roll-call was used to waive the second-reading requirement before final adoption.
