The staff discussion focused on moving the existing memorial and flagpole to a location adjacent to the new restroom. "We still need to move the memorial down by the bathrooms," Speaker 1 said, noting the possibility of relocating the doughboy statue as part of the change. Staff also proposed a small parking pad in front of the restroom; Speaker 1 recommended four parking spaces, which others said would be sufficient.
On irrigation, Speaker 1 said the city is considering pairing wells and tying a restored well into the new cemetery sprinkler system. "Well, it's only 60 gallons a minute," Speaker 1 said, describing current flow from the well and adding that staff would explore whether the well can be cleaned up and re-used alongside another well to serve the park, cemetery and soccer field.
Other operational items discussed included whether the cemetery restroom should use timed automatic locks or be opened only for funerals and Memorial Day weekend; staff favored an automatic program to avoid leaving the facility unsecured overnight. The group also discussed demolishing an older park restroom and options for a replacement storage shed, including siting a new building at the cemetery or near the cemetery shop and pursuing three bids for construction.
What happens next: staff will obtain cost estimates (three bids were proposed) for parking and any shed or paving work, evaluate whether the well can be reclassified or rehabilitated to supply irrigation, and return with budget figures and options to a future meeting. No formal motions or votes were recorded in the work session.
