The North Platte City Council on Feb. 17 approved an agreement to sell 3111 West 19th Street to Mitchell McLaughlin and authorized the mayor to sign the necessary documents following a brief public hearing.
City staff member Bill told the council the parcel contains a vacant mobile home that likely needs removal. "The plan should the city purchase this is we would clean up the property, get it cleared for new residential structure," he said, adding the citys GIS measurement showed the lot is "about 75 feet in width." Council discussion focused on whether the lot could support a standard single-family home rather than a mobile home.
Judy Clark, who identified herself in the meeting as "mayor and council," said zoning rules allow a full-size residential structure on lots as narrow as 40 feet, with 44 feet preferred. "You can put a full size residential structure on a lot that's 40 foot wide. 44 is better," she said. Council members and staff noted modular construction would be allowed but that single-wide mobile homes are limited to RM districts.
A motion to approve the sale was made by Councilmember Flanders and seconded by Councilmember Lucas; the presiding official called the question and the item passed. The transcript does not record an individual roll-call tally.
The sale moves the property toward cleanup and redevelopment under existing R-3 zoning and will be finalized when the mayor signs the sales documents as authorized by the council.
