The Village of Greendale board approved a package of special‑event permits for 2026 and designated the GEA Village Days event (July 30–Aug. 2) a public celebrations day.
Staff reviewed multiple applications the village manager and police chief had already vetted with the Public Celebrations Committee. Approved events included the Greendale Lions Easter egg hunt (April 4 at Highlandville Elementary), the GEA spring resale (April 11–12 at Greendale High School), Kites Over Greendale (May 9), Schools‑Out kickoff (June 11), Movies in the Park series, multiple gazebo concerts and the Village Days celebration. Officials said most applications carried no conditions; Village Days was recommended for designation as a public celebrations day to allow more manageable enforcement of village ordinances and to avoid requiring complete fencing of the event area.
Staff stated fiscal implications for Village Days were roughly $8,100 based on 2025 actuals and included DPW and police staffing. Trustees debated whether a public‑celebrations designation could reduce revenue for local restaurants (a concern raised in the meeting) versus the police chief’s request that an event that is not declared a public celebration be fully fenced. After discussion a motion to approve Village Days and declare it a public celebrations day carried (with some abstentions recorded in the roll call). The board then approved the remaining event items grouped together.
The board also approved temporary Class B fermented malt beverage and wine licenses for several events, including gazebo concerts and Pet Palooza, with staff noting the necessary applications and fees were paid.
