Staff explained the amendment responds to an unintended consequence of the earlier ordinance that limited sidewalk use to riders under 16 while also prohibiting scooter use on streets with speed limits over 25 mph, effectively leaving some areas unusable for older riders. "We have a brochure, we have a webpage, we recently put it in the Village Views newsletter," staff said while describing outreach; the proposed change removes the under‑16 sidewalk restriction and sets a 15 mph maximum walk/bikeway speed.
Trustees expressed support and highlighted more helmet use among children since the earlier ordinance. After brief discussion, the board moved and approved the ordinance amendment by roll call.
