At a Jan. 27 board meeting brief, Superintendent Dr. Bob McBride introduced Derek Patton as a newly appointed board member filling the remaining four years of Zain Navarro’s term and announced that the board had approved Brian Amer on Jan. 6 to serve as the district’s next director of facilities maintenance.
McBride described Patton as a father of four, a Marine who served in Iraq in 2003, and a community volunteer who had served more than a year on the district’s Facilities Master Planning Council. He said Brian Amer comes from High School District 113, where he is director of operations, and will take over for Bill Thompson on 07/01/2025; Thompson served 27 years in that role.
The superintendent also told residents the board is poised in February to approve two school calendars (the 2025–26 and 2026–27 calendars) and that a public survey would be posted on Friday to solicit community feedback. McBride noted the district has frozen school fees for well over a decade and that there will be no increases to parents at this time.
McBride closed with an appeal to civility on social media, telling parents and guardians, “Let’s keep it classy, Lockport,” and urging adults to model respectful behavior for students. The transcript does not record formal vote tallies for the personnel approvals described.
