Fruit Heights council approves City Hall glass replacement and ADA door opener change orders

The Fruit Heights City Council voted Feb. 17 to approve two change orders on the City Hall construction project, adding matching tinted glass across the building and installing ADA door openers on the basement rear entrance.
City staff described the glass work as both an aesthetic and energy-efficiency measure to replace aging clear glass and fix leaking seals. Staff provided a base figure for the glass work of $13,597 for glass-only replacement but said many seals are more than 30 years old and likely will need replacing, which would raise costs. Council discussed whether to include the glass work now while the general contractor is on site. "The bid for that, is 13,597," staff said.
On the ADA opener, staff said a final bid was delivered the morning of the meeting: "the bid was $5,858.10, to put that the ADA access in in the basement." Council members noted that an accessible entrance is required. The chair said the combined changes keep the project well under the overall budgeted amount for the project (the total project was discussed at about $550,000 with the contract around $415,000).
Procedure and votes: Blake moved to approve the glass change order; Mark seconded and the council voted in favor. David moved to approve the ADA door opener change order; Mark seconded and that motion also passed unanimously. Council discussed timing; staff said the contractor expects to finish in about four to five weeks weather permitting.
Next steps: Staff will issue the change orders and proceed with procurement. Council did not identify additional approvals required beyond standard change-order processing.
